In the Fall (or anytime, really) I love the flavors of warm spices like cinnamon and cloves… Chai tea, Cider (or Chaider!) on a foggy morning- so cozy and comforting. Add some spiced ginger cookies, and I am set! Last night we had them on the deck with a cocktail at sunset. So very Fall!

I found this great recipe for chewy Ginger Cookies in the new Better Homes & Gardens Baking Cookbook. Click on over to my full post on their website for the recipe and more photos. It’s a good one!!

The Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashana starts tonight! We are gearing up to host a big dinner tomorrow night and since it’s traditional to eat apples and honey to sweeten the new year, I am making this honey cake for the first time. It’s a dessert my relatives make every year and I was so happy to get the recipe. This Majestic and Moist Honey Cake by Marcy Goldman is truly majestic and VERY moist, and I recommend it highly.

Shana Tova! (Happy New Year!)

Even though it’s starting to become spring, it’s still cold in some parts!  We were recently in NYC and since Jonathan’s family has a house in Vermont, we took a group of friends there for the weekend. We cooked big meals together, played snow football and spent evenings by the fire. (It’s kind of like The Forest Feast in the snow!). Our friend Sam made his herb marinated BBQ chicken one night and for Sunday breakfast we made these pear pancakes topped with walnuts (and real Vermont maple syrup, of course!).

Broiled Grapefruit with Cinnamon and Sugar

There is so much citrus in California right now! This is a fun twist on your average half of grapefruit for breakfast. I love how the cinnamony-sugar coating gets caramelized under the broiler. Dig in with a spoon while it’s warm!

What’s your favorite way to eat grapefruit?

Clementine Cake

Pressing little clementine “cuties” into cake batter before baking makes it just a little more fun! You can use any basic cake recipe, but I recommend something citrussy like this Grapefruit Yogurt Cake from Smitten Kitchen. In lieu of a glaze, I drizzled mine with honey. Enjoy!
