There are 5 vegetarian cookbooks in The Forest Feast series—all written, illustrated and photographed by Erin Gleeson.
The books feature simple recipes that are easy to make, shown in a visual, illustrated layout. Many of the recipes have fewer than 5 ingredients with an emphasis on colorful fruits and vegetables.
The Forest Feast is a New York Times bestseller and the series has been translated into 10 languages, sold worldwide.
The recipes in each book feature a collage of Erin’s watercolor illustrations, hand lettering and vibrant photographs.
The book series was inspired by Erin’s move from New York City to a cabin in the woods of Northern California and imagery of life in the forest are sprinkled throughout.

A note from Erin:
When people ask which book they should buy, it’s so hard for me to choose (like choosing one of my children!)… Here’s a little more info on each:
My first cookbook, The Forest Feast, was released Spring 2014 and is now a New York Times Best Seller! (I was so excited the morning I got that call, a dream come true!) I did all the recipes, photos, illustration and hand lettering in it. It features 100 simple vegetarian recipes- a few blog favorites, but mostly brand new ones. The recipes are displayed visually, in the same way that I present them on my blog, with my handwriting to describe the steps. It’s a unique blend of artbook and cookbook- I hope you have lots of fun cooking with it!
My second cookbook, The Forest Feast for Kids, was released February 2016 and is an adapted version of my first book for kids. It includes the 20 of the most kid-friendly favorites from The Forest Feast, along with 20 new recipes, plus several ideas for kids’ parties. There are also easy-to-follow instructions for techniques, measurements, and other helpful kitchen aides. It’s designed for kids cook from it themselves, with an emphasis on colorful produce.
My third cookbook, The Forest Feast Gatherings (a follow-up to The Forest Feast), is an entertaining-focused book with vegetarian menus for all different types of gatherings. It was released September 2016 and has all new material (with a few blog favorites.)
My fourth cookbook is The Forest Feast Mediterranean. Jon had a sabbatical from work so I pitched a travel book to my publisher and they went for it! We took our infant and toddler along for the ride and hit up Spain, Italy, France and Portugal over the course of 3 months. I created vegetarian versions of dishes I saw along the way and also created recipes inspired by regional produce and products we tasted. What’s grown in the western Mediterranean is quite similar to what we have in California, so it felt like a natural extension of my cooking.
My fifth cookbook, The Forest Feast Road Trip, was inspired by a family trip by car around the state of California. We stayed in 10 unique homes along the way which are featured including an urban farm in Los Angeles, a beach house in Santa Barbara and A-frame in the mountains. We visited a lavender farm in the Eastern Sierra, a date farm in the desert, a ranch on the Central Coast and many other spots rich with agricultural history. Each place along the way offered culinary inspiration for the book.
